Changelog

What changed in the console, the Round switch, and the Simple switch. Newest first.

Simple

The Simple switch (XIAO ESP32-C6 with wired buttons). Each heading is the firmware version Devices shows.

0.8.02026-10-01

  • A toggle switch can now toggle the lights on every flip, whichever way the lever moves, when you choose "Each flip toggles the lights" in the console. The lever can no longer disagree with the lights after they were changed from the Hue app or another switch, and two switches can share one light, as on a staircase.
  • In that mode a quick flick and back recalls your scenes from either lever position. Without scenes, each flip toggles at once, with no wait.
  • The switch never toggles the lights by itself when it starts, reconnects or gets new settings, so lights that came back on after a power cut stay on.

0.7.12026-09-29

  • Hold to dim pauses for less time at full and at the lowest level before turning around.

0.7.02026-09-29

  • Hold to dim now goes down and up in a loop until you let go, pausing briefly at full and at the lowest level, so you no longer let go and hold again to change direction.
  • Hold to dim moves at the same speed from any level: a light near full gets there right away instead of creeping for several seconds.
  • A hold brightens a light that is off or below about a third, and dims it otherwise, the same way every time.
  • If the button stays held for more than 30 seconds, dimming stops by itself.

0.6.42026-09-29

  • Scenes with many lights no longer go missing from the scene list in the console. Before, a scene that set a lot of lights at once was too large for the switch to read, and it was left out.

0.6.32026-09-29

  • After a restart, the switch sends its lights, rooms and scenes to the console once instead of twice, so it asks less of the Hue Bridge and the console while starting up.

0.6.22026-09-28

  • Nothing changes in how the switch works. This version is sent over Wi-Fi to check that an update cut off by a power cut is reported and then completes.

0.6.12026-09-28

  • If the switch loses power or restarts in the middle of an update over Wi-Fi, the Switches page now shows that the update failed, and the switch tries again about an hour later. Before, it tried again right away without telling you.

0.6.02026-09-28

  • After this update, the switch can get new versions over Wi-Fi: press Update next to it on the Switches page, and it updates itself at its next check-in, without leaving the wall. This update itself still goes over USB.
  • The Switches page shows the version each switch is running, refreshed every time the switch checks in.
  • If an update over Wi-Fi fails or the new version does not start properly, the switch keeps running the version it had, and the Switches page tells you the update failed.
  • Your settings, Wi-Fi network and Hue pairing are kept through every update.

0.5.02026-09-28

  • You can now wire up to six switches or buttons to one board, on pins D0 to D5.
  • The new inputs D3, D4 and D5 do nothing until you set each one up in the console, as a toggle switch or a push button. Your settings for D0, D1 and D2 are kept.

0.4.42026-09-27

  • The switch no longer risks restarting when you pair it with the Hue Bridge again, or clear its settings, while it is checking in with the console.

0.4.32026-09-27

  • While one switch is waiting on a slow Hue Bridge, the other switches and buttons still respond right away.
  • Quick flicks of a switch are no longer missed while the Bridge is busy with another one: the lights end up matching where you left each switch.
  • A button press that could not reach the Bridge within about 10 seconds is dropped, instead of changing the lights long after you pressed it.

0.4.22026-09-27

  • If the switch loses power or runs out of storage while saving new settings from the console, it now gets those settings again on its next check-in. Before, it could keep its old settings while the console showed it as up to date.

0.4.12026-09-26

  • The console shows whether the switch has your latest settings.
  • Changes you save in the console reach the switch in about 30 seconds while you are working on it, and in about 5 minutes otherwise, instead of up to an hour.

0.4.02026-09-26

  • A push button can dim its lights while you hold it, if you choose Dim for its hold in the console. Let go to stop at the level you want.
  • Each hold dims the other way from the last one. A light at full brightness always dims down, and one near its lowest always brightens.
  • Holding to dim a light that is off turns it on at its lowest level and brightens it. Dimming down never turns a light off.

0.3.02026-09-26

  • Each input can be a toggle switch or a push button, whichever you choose for it in the console.
  • ImportantAn input you have not set up in the console does nothing. After updating, set up each wired input in Switches.
  • A push button responds as soon as you let go, unless you gave it a double-click action.
  • Double-clicking a toggle switch steps through your chosen scenes, one per double-click, and starts again from the first after you switch the lights off.
  • Holding BOOT can run a Hue action instead of re-pairing with the Bridge, if you choose that in the console.

0.2.112026-09-24

  • ImportantAfter this update, installing new firmware from Setup no longer needs the BOOT button. Press RESET once when the write finishes.

0.2.102026-09-22

  • Pairing with the Bridge no longer fails if the first check right after pairing does not go through.

0.2.92026-09-22

  • The switch ignores a console token that is not a real API key.

0.2.82026-09-22

  • Devices can read the switch's status, start pairing, and clear its saved settings over USB.

0.2.72026-09-22

  • The orange LED shows the setup step as a count of blinks. See How-to.

0.2.62026-09-21

  • The Wi-Fi network list during setup tries again if the first scan fails.

0.2.52026-09-21

  • USB setup stays connected while you pick a Wi-Fi network.

0.2.42026-09-21

  • USB setup still works right after the switch restarts.

0.2.32026-09-20

  • The Wi-Fi network list during setup is more reliable while the switch is starting.

0.2.22026-09-20

  • The switch answers a Wi-Fi scan request during setup straight away.

0.2.12026-09-20

  • The Wi-Fi network list during setup is no longer empty when the scan is slow.

0.2.02026-09-20

  • You can set up the switch from the console over USB: Wi-Fi and the console link are saved on the switch.

0.1.12026-09-20

  • Buttons stay responsive while the switch checks in with the console. If a check-in fails, the switch keeps its last good settings.

before 0.1.12026-09-19

  • First Simple switch firmware. The BOOT button toggles a light, and the switch finds and pairs with the Hue Bridge.
